Abstract


In the maintenance of human homeostasis, the chemosensory functions of taste and smell play a fundamental role. Through sensations of taste and smell, everyone can taste and smell foods, select essential nutrients for the life, avoid contaminated
foodstuffs and noxious air pollutions. Also everyone has a fancy of taste and smell. If these pleasurable sensations are altered and disrupted, problems of general systemic health will be evoked. Especially balance of humane motion will be
destroyed
Since taste and smell function is intimately associated with oral and maxillofacial region, many patients with chemosensory complaints and disorders. Generally gustatory and olfactory disorders can and should be a component in the scope of care
of
the
general dental practice. For the diagnosis and treatment of taste diagnosis, dentist should have the knowledge of mechanisms of taste signal transduction and various taste sensations.
